Kilimanjaro climb, Lemosho Route (6-day)

About this experience

Embark on this epic 6-day Kilimanjaro Lemosho hiking adventure and enjoy thrilling scenic vistas and pristine wildlife on the way to the peak of Africa. This trail would be a great chice for regular hikers or fit travelers who are up to a challenge. Previous high-altitude experience would help to acclimate smoothly but is not mandatory.

You will cross several climatic zones (from heath on Shira Plateau to Arctic desert in the summit area), each different, unique and captivating.

Our professional climbing crews will take care of your safety and comfort. Overnight stays are in our walk-in tents (designed by us and customized for Kilimanjaro), the “kitchen” team will surprise you with their cooking skills, and the porters will carry all equipment. The guides will be leading your way, excitedly sharing their knowledge of this amazing Mount.

Pre and post-climb accommodation (included) will be in a hotel in the foothills of Kilimanjaro. Airport transfers included.

Planning perspective

How I’d plan this experience

I’d choose this six-day Lemosho climb if your priority is a fully supported Kilimanjaro ascent rather than an independent trekking challenge. It looks particularly well suited to regular hikers who are fit, comfortable sleeping in tents and prepared to treat altitude—not distance alone—as the defining difficulty. You do not need previous high-altitude experience, but I think it is sensible to arrive with realistic expectations: this is a demanding mountain itinerary with a short schedule, even where the practical arrangements are unusually comprehensive.

Who I’d recommend it for

This is a strong fit for active travellers who want expert mountain support around them while still taking on a serious physical objective. The route moves through markedly different environments, from the heath of the Shira Plateau to the summit’s Arctic desert, so it should appeal to people who value the landscape as much as the summit goal.

My advice is not to interpret the included crew, tents and porter support as making the climb casual. The stated fitness threshold is moderate, but the trip is specifically not recommended for people with poor cardiovascular health, spinal injuries or pregnancy. If you are newer to multi-day hiking, I’d focus your preparation on sustained uphill walking, consecutive active days and comfort living simply at camp—not just a single hard workout.

Why the six-day format needs honest consideration

The important trade-off here is pace. The itinerary reaches a vehicle drop-off point at 3,500 metres before the first night at Shira 2, so elevation is part of the experience almost immediately. I’d choose this version if six days is genuinely the time you have and you already understand that adaptation can be unpredictable.

Previous high-altitude experience is not required, but I think anyone who has it may find the transition less daunting. More importantly, leave room in your wider trip for a calm arrival and recovery afterward rather than treating the mountain as a plug-in activity between long travel days. The pre- and post-climb hotel nights help make that plan more practical.

What the support changes—and what you still need to bring

I’d recommend this to hikers who prefer to spend their energy on walking and recovery rather than camp logistics. Group equipment, meals on the mountain, guides and porters are built into the structure, while tent sharing is the standard arrangement for non-solo climbers. Feedback consistently highlights organised logistics, attentive guides and camp comfort, which makes this a reassuring choice for a first major expedition as well as for travellers who simply want fewer moving parts.

The boundary is personal kit: your boots, hiking clothing and sleeping bag are not included, though hire is available. That is worth planning early, because footwear and sleep comfort are highly individual; I would not leave those decisions until the last minute.

Arrival and the practical edges of the package

For an international mountain trip, I’d value that airport collection, ground transport and hotel accommodation are already integrated. You begin with a hotel briefing, then meet the mountain crew again before heading to the park, so the first day is best used to settle in and make sure you understand the climb ahead.

Still, build your budget beyond the headline package. Flights, visas, insurance and hotel lunches and dinners sit outside it. Insurance is especially non-negotiable in my view: the stated recommendation is that it cover mountain trekking activities, which is the right standard to plan around for this kind of ascent.
